MAIA
Three pillars of self leadership

The MAIA Method™

From Burnout to Belonging

The MAIA Method™ is based on three pillars of self leadership to help individuals, workplaces and communities move from Burnout to Belonging.

Recover. Rewire. Reconnect.

01Recover

Your body is the book

Prime your State

No book will teach you more than your own body. You just need to learn how to read it.

02Rewire

Your mind is the tool

Own your Story

You can rewrite the stories that have been holding you back.

03Reconnect

Your heart is the teacher

Engage your Strategy

Your intuition and values are your greatest strategy.

How much money, time and energy have you put into books, tools and teachers to help you manage stress and improve wellbeing?

If you are anything like me, it is thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours. The MAIA Method™ challenges you to stop looking outside of yourself for answers that you already have within you, for free, accessible any time of day.

Recover

Pillar 01: Recover

Your body is the book

No book will teach you more than your own body. You just need to learn how to read it.

Rewire

Pillar 02: Rewire

Your mind is the tool

Your mind is a tyrannical master but a great servant. You don't need fancy tools to get on top of burnout. When you learn how to use your mind as a tool, you can rewrite the stories that have been holding you back.

Reconnect

Pillar 03: Reconnect

Your heart is the teacher

Your intuition and values are your greatest strategy. You don't need to fly overseas and go to a guru to find your direction. Your inner voice: the whispers of your own heart, are your guide.

About the method

Created by Dr Mel Taitimu, The MAIA Method™ is the result of 30 years of psychological training, clinical practice, cultural wisdom and personal experience navigating the realities of burnout.

This programme is designed to adapt to each person's unique story: your history, your workplace, your sport, your family, gender, age, culture and so on. What brought you here and what works for you is like a fingerprint. No two paths into and out of burnout are the same.

The MAIA Method™ begins with the person before moving into the system. Leaders and teams first need a shared understanding of the science of how stress impacts upon the body, mind, and heart.

There is an ocean of information out there right now about the nervous system and it can be hard to decipher what is real or pseudoscience. I draw on years of study and practice to cut through the noise, bust unhelpful misinformation and give you easy to use frameworks to achieve meaningful and sustainable change.

You can't lead what you aren't living.

Once individuals are able to use the knowledge to develop habits in daily life, I can use this foundation to support systemic and cultural change on a wider scale. This hybrid individual and systemic approach is how workplaces and teams move beyond putting out spot fires and begin protecting people from ongoing cycles of burnout.

The pathway for workplaces and teams

Learn. Live. Lead.

A bottom-up 3 x 3 pathway that supports long-term behavioural and systems change, helping organisations move from talking about wellbeing to living and leading it.

01
KnowledgeLearn

The first level of the MAIA Method™ is about building shared language and understanding.

Leaders and teams learn the core MAIA framework across three clear learning modules: Prime your State (Recover), Own your Story (Rewire), and Engage your Strategy (Reconnect). Each module covers the latest research and tools regarding the physical, emotional, mental and relational impact of burnout. Most importantly, practical tools are provided for clients who are extremely time and energy poor.

  • 3 x one-hour keynotes (can choose one as a taste tester)
  • 3 x two-hour workshops (can choose one as a taste tester)
  • Half-day off-site with more detailed engagement and practice
02
HabitsLive

Learning is important, but knowledge alone does not create change. LIVE helps the rubber hit the road.

This pathway includes three one-hour online follow-up live masterclasses designed to help leaders and teams reflect on the knowledge gained in LEARN. Participants receive coaching around how to make the learning come to life in day-to-day situations with the pressures and reality of their workplace. LIVE coaching focuses on the blocks and barriers that make it hard to change old patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving.

  • 3 x one-hour live online masterclasses
  • Focus on blocks and barriers to change
  • Group coaching and reflection

Systems & CultureLead

The goal is not to import a generic wellbeing model. The goal is to help each organisation embed practical, sustainable behaviours into the way work is lived, led, and designed.

Once leaders and teams have the knowledge and started to practise the habits taught in the MAIA Method™, I will support your organisation to embed the work into culture and systems. LEAD is a bespoke consultation process designed around the organisation's unique environment, market, pressure points, and ecosystem. This may include looking at leadership behaviours, team rhythms, meeting culture, workload expectations, communication patterns, onboarding processes, recovery practices and spaces, psychosocial risk, and the day-to-day systems that either protect or deplete human capacity.

  • Bespoke organisational consultation
  • System design and embedding
  • Leadership behaviour and culture audit

You can choose to start with one module.

All workshops are designed to help your team recognise, prevent, and recover from burnout. Book a consult call to see if MAIA can support your people.

EAP & Organisational Wellbeing

Mental health support that actually fits your people.

If you're looking for an EAP that goes beyond a helpline number and a generic wellness app, the MAIA Method™ offers a bespoke alternative: one built around your organisation's people, culture, and context.

Grounded in inclusivity, compassion, and psychological safety, this is a consultancy approach designed to help organisations move from performative wellbeing to meaningful, lasting change, the kind that makes people want to stay.

I can offer 1:1 support, team training, offsite experiences and onboarding education around mental health.

The name

MAIA is a Māori word, one that carries three ideas at its heart.

It is not simply a name. It is an intention: a way of moving through difficulty with presence and purpose.

01

The courage to begin.

Maia is the willingness to take the first step, even when the path is uncertain or the weight feels heavy.

02

The strength to keep showing up.

Maia is the quiet resilience that carries you forward through the hard days, the setbacks and the in-between moments.

03

The confidence that grows through small, intentional steps each day.

Maia is the understanding that confidence is not something you wait for: it is something you build, one deliberate act at a time.
